Something For Every Automotive Enthusiast

For the majority of the year, I consider cars a means of transportation and the automotive industry a target market for our software solution. Now, attending AAPEX and SEMA brings the automotive enthusiast out in me and allows me to connect with the industry that I have served for more than 25 years. I get energized by experiencing the dedication and excitement of more than a 160000 thousand fellow industry enthusiasts. Some of us are on the boring side of things with our profession of data management solutions, others enjoy customizing vehicles far beyond my imagination. SEMA in particular is known for showcasing the extraordinary.

 

Automotive Industry Homecoming

When it comes to showcasing the latest advancements in the automotive aftermarket industry, there’s no bigger event than the combined AAPEX (Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo) and SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) shows. Held annually in Las Vegas, these events bring together automotive professionals, enthusiasts, and innovators from around the globe, making them the ultimate experience for anyone in or curious about the automotive industry, valued at USD 2.3 trillion globally. I think of it as homecoming, where I get a chance to network with existing customers, partners, talk to prospects and catch up with industry leaders.

 

44 American Football Fields of Exhibit Space

The sheer scale of AAPEX and SEMA is impossible to comprehend until you’re there. Together, these shows cover over 2,500,000 square feet (230,000 square meters) of exhibit space—about the size of 44 American football fields (or 34 soccer pitches). AAPEX spans 560,000 square feet, while SEMA, with a stronger focus on specialty and performance equipment, takes over 2 million square feet, including sprawling outdoor exhibits. This vast space allows for immersive experiences, live demos, and hands-on displays where attendees can see new technologies in action. For comparison, NRF’s Retail Big Show—the largest event for the retail industry, held annually in New York—uses around 300,000 square feet.

 

Cybertrucks and Modified Supercars

AAPEX and SEMA draw a huge crowd, with over 160,000 attendees from across the automotive industry. The crowd includes manufacturers, aftermarket service providers, shop owners, and automotive enthusiasts who travel from around the world to see the latest and greatest in the industry. SEMA, in particular, is known for attracting influencers, media, and even celebrities, making it an energetic, high-profile event where high-performance products and custom builds are the crowd magnets. I have to admit to be childishly excited to see so many fancy cars on display throughout the exhibits. Custom Tesla Cybertrucks were dominating the exhibits this year, but the usual display of modified supercars was ever present throughout the floor space.

Tire Burn and BBQ

One of the standout features of AAPEX and SEMA is the highly interactive, hands-on experience they provide. AAPEX offers interactive product demos and training sessions, where attendees can engage directly with new diagnostic tools, parts, and technologies. SEMA’s outdoor displays often include live vehicle demonstrations, custom builds, and even racing simulations, making it feel like a true automotive playground. The unique smell that is blend of burned tires mixed with BBQ is unique to SEMA and it will definitely stay with me for a while

 

Unparalleled Networking Opportunities

For automotive professionals, AAPEX and SEMA provide networking opportunities unlike any other. The crowd includes everyone from CEOs and engineers to shop owners and media personalities, creating a vibrant environment for collaboration, partnerships, and inspiration. You’re as likely to see a product launch as you are to strike up a conversation with an industry veteran or up-and-coming entrepreneur. SEMA’s star-studded atmosphere and AAPEX’s specialized sessions make these shows key events for anyone looking to make connections in the automotive world. It was great to experience so many of our current customers exhibit and showcase their innovations.

 

Why AAPEX and SEMA Matter for the Automotive Industry

The significance of AAPEX and SEMA in the automotive industry can’t be overstated. These shows serve as a barometer for industry trends, from the latest advancements in vehicle customization to innovations in repair and diagnostics. They allow professionals to stay ahead of industry shifts, particularly around emerging topics like EV technology, autonomous systems, and aftermarket sustainability.

Each year, the exhibits and demonstrations at AAPEX and SEMA provide a glimpse into the future of automotive aftermarket products and services, making these shows indispensable for anyone with a stake in the industry. From an automotive standards perspective, both Auto Care and TecAlliance/TecDoc were present and it was great to spend time catching up with old connections and to make new ones.

With their vast spaces, interactive displays, and commitment to showcasing the latest in automotive aftermarket and specialty equipment, these shows provide an invaluable platform for innovation and connection. AAPEX and SEMA offer a unique, hands-on experience that’s deeply tailored to the automotive community.
