Jotun, founded in 1926, is a global leader in paints and coatings, headquartered in Norway. With operations spanning over 100 countries, the company employs more than 10,000 people across 68 companies and 41 production facilities. It serves four main segments: decorative paints, marine coatings, protective coatings and powder coatings. For almost a century, Jotun has protected property, ranging from iconic buildings to beautiful homes. Known for its commitment to quality, creativity and innovation, Jotun views paints and coatings as essential to building a sustainable future and supports the architecture, shipping, energy and light industries.

Challenges: Building a data foundation for scalable growth

Jotun is committed to delivering high-quality, sustainable paints and coatings that protect and beautify the world’s infrastructure. As the company expanded, it recognized the need for a unified approach to product information management (PIM) that would support its long-term growth, foster collaboration and deliver greater value to customers.

Jotun proactively sought a technology solution that would empower teams across its various functions and geographies with accurate, accessible and consistent product data.

Solution: A centralized approach to global product information management

Jotun implemented Stibo Systems Product Experience Data Cloud and PIM cloud service to create a single source of truth for product information across 30 countries.

The master data management (MDM) solution consolidated commercial, logistical and marketing data, bringing order to thousands of product variations and enabling seamless collaboration across teams.

Streamlined workflows and localization

The solution automated workflows that trigger localization tasks once a product is approved, allowing local teams to adapt and publish product details quickly and accurately. This shift improved speed and reinforced trust and accountability across departments.

Meeting industry standards with the NOBB integration

A standout achievement was Jotun's integration with the NOBB database.

In Norway, the NOBB database – a national product information system for building materials – serves as a central repository for suppliers, retailers and industry professionals. It standardizes and ensures accurate product data. The NOBB database contains approximately 900,000 products from 900 suppliers. By listing its products in NOBB, Jotun ensures visibility among a wide range of industry players and meets regulatory requirements.

Using the NOBB Connect Supplier API, the company developed a real-time data synchronization mechanism for its decorative products in the Norwegian market. This integration was unprecedented, creating a direct pipeline for keeping product information current and accessible.

A scalable, standard solution

Working closely with implementation partner Unit of Measure, Jotun created a flexible platform that avoids complex customizations and can easily adapt to changing business needs. The API-driven solution ensures smooth data management and supports future innovation.

As a result of the implementation, Jotun has realized several benefits:

  • Reliable, trusted data: Teams across 30 countries now work from a unified data source, reducing errors and enabling confident decision-making.
  • Accelerated time to market: Product updates that once took weeks now happen in days, allowing Jotun to respond swiftly to customer and market needs.
  • Stronger market presence: Integration with NOBB ensures compliance and boosts discoverability in Norway’s construction sector.
  • Employee empowerment: Automation has freed up valuable time, enabling employees to focus on strategic initiatives and innovation.
