Internet

The internet is a worldwide system of computer networks – a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer. It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANet. It was started for users of a research computer at one university to be able to get information from research computer at other universities. E-Mail, web browsing, chat, and file transfer are common uses of the net.

Master Data Management solutions are increasingly exposed through the internet and data residing in master data hubs are increasingly validated and enriched through external reference data available on the internet thus helping with Data Quality Improvement.
